P&T Consultants is proud to celebrate the conservation of the Jiak Kim Street godowns, which have been recognized for excellence at the URA Architectural Heritage Awards 2024.  The award ceremony was held on 8th November 2024 and Director Kingsley Ng received the award from Mr  Desmond Lee ( Minister for National Development, and the Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, Singapore).

This project, part of Frasers Residence River Promenade, honors Singapore’s architectural legacy by blending the godowns' rich history with modern urban life.

Project Overview:
Built in the early 20th century, the Jiak Kim Street godowns have witnessed Singapore's transformation—from bustling warehouses to the iconic Zouk nightclub, and now, as part of a vibrant residential and cultural development. The conservation effort ensures that the legacy of these structures lives on, while seamlessly integrating them into today’s urban fabric.

Heritage Conservation Highlights:

  • Preserving Original Materials: Key elements such as the gable-end facades, timber fenestration, and original brickwork were meticulously preserved to retain the building's historical character.
  • Sensitive Restoration Techniques: The restoration team used traditional plastering methods and rising damp treatments to carefully maintain the authenticity of the godowns' structural integrity.
  • Incorporating Public Art: The project incorporates kinetic sculptures that symbolize the ebb and flow of the Singapore River, creating a poetic connection between the building and the river’s rich history.
  • Interpretative Displays: Visitors can engage with interpretive displays that tell the stories of the godowns' past, the people who worked along the riverbanks, and the dynamic role of Jiak Kim Street in Singapore’s development.

This revitalization of the Jiak Kim Street godowns transforms them into a "living archive" that celebrates both history and modernity, making them a unique landmark for residents and visitors alike. We are proud to have contributed to the preservation of such an important piece of Singapore's heritage.
