Last November, Symphony of the Century: Exhibition of Oil Paintings on the Historical Changes of the Bund of Shanghai, presented by JiuShi Group and supported by P&T Group, was held in Shanghai. The exhibition was a showcase of over 100 canvases by more than 80 painters to encourage appreciation of the significant heritage of the Bund. Recently, one of the curators and an artist who participated in the exhibition visited Hong Kong to present their works to P&T Group to help showcase the architecture firm’s century-old history in Shanghai.

More than just art pieces, the canvases also showcase the history of one of the world’s great riverside boulevards. One of the curators and master painterHuang Azhong’s Temperature of the City and In the Distance depict the Bund of the 1930s – the focal point in both is the P&T masterpiece HSBC building, which stands alongside many P&T designs in the painting, including the Union Building, Customs House, Standard Chartered Bank, and the Peace Hotel, among others. Sui Jun’s Scenery over a Century reveals the contrast between old and new in Shanghai. Reflected in the picturesque window of P&T’s Yangtze Insurance Building are some of the more recent developments on the opposite side of the Huangpu River including the Oriental Pearl Tower, cleverly showcasing two distinctly different sides of the city.

“Among the historical buildings situated along the Shanghai’s famous Bund, over 10 were designed by P&T Group,” says Mr. Henry Yip, Architect & Director, P&T Group Shanghai. “An internationally celebrated promenade, the skyline of the Bund from numbers 1 to 33 is utterly mesmerizing. Indeed, just like other artwork exhibited, the oil paintings arriving Hong Kong act as testament to P&T’s lasting legacy in Shanghai and show the group’s continued role in shaping the modern metropolis.”

Beyond the Bund, P&T continues to shape modern Shanghai with more recent projects including the award-winning The Hub, Raffles City, 1 & 2 Corporate Avenue and more. Celebrating its 150th year in 2018, P&T Group will aim to further enhance the skylines of Shanghai and Hong Kong.
