P&T Group’s award-winning legacy has continued, with the architecture and engineering firm picking up awards at two major ceremonies this season for work in Hong Kong and Dubai
P&T Group’s impressive sustainable design credentials were further boosted with the HKIA (Hong Kong Institute of Architects) Special Architectural Award – Architectural Sustainability 2016/17 for the Hong Kong team’s work on T PARK in association with Vasconi. Located in the New Territories, T PARK is the city’s first self-sustained sludge treatment facility.
T PARK is one of the most technologically sophisticated facilities of its kind anywhere in the world, and marks a significant step forward in Hong Kong’s waste-to-energy journey. T PARK combines a variety of advanced technologies into a single complex, bringing together sludge incinerators with power generation, desalination, educational and ecological facilities that showcase the benefits of the waste-to-energy approach in waste management.
The impressive structure was designed and constructed with commitment to a ‘full-life cycle’ of materials, with the manufacturing of building materials, processes of construction, delivery of equipment as well as the planning of eventual dismantling and waste disposal all following stringent environmental guidelines. Eco-materials like low emissivity glass, paving blocks with recycled constituents and recycled plastic timber decking were widely utilised as building and landscaping materials, while inside a large number of fender woods from the former Wan Chai ferry pier and other pre-used materials were upcycled for furniture use. From the outside, the streamlined architectural design of T PARK’s main plant building blends in with the surrounding scenery and enables optimal use of daylight while minimising the need for artificial lighting, and green building roofs provide extra heat insulation with minimal energy expenditure.
P&T Group Dubai have joined the winners’ circle this season with an award at the 11th MEP ME (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Middle East) Awards, with their yet-to-be-completed construction for the InterContinental Hotel in Mina al Arab, UAE, highly commended in the category Plumbing Project of the Year.
The leading industry publication for the Gulf Cooperation Council, the awards are held annually by MEP Middle East Magazine, an imprint of ITP Media Group, one of the largest media companies in the Middle East. Located in a new community development just outside the northern coastal city of Ras al Khaimah, the InterContinental Mina al Arab, once complete, will house 352 keys, comprising 237 main hotel rooms, 78 club rooms and 37 exclusive villas and chalets. The latest commendation comes off the back of the firm being listed in the Top 20 MEP Consultants in the Middle East by MEP Middle East Magazine in 2016, as well as other award wins for high-profile projects such as the Burj Rafal Tower (Riyadh, 2014), Palm Jumeriah Hotel, Resort & Residences (2017, Dubai), and Bourdillon No.4 (Lagos, under construction), for which P&T Group provided architecture, structure and MEP services.
With the Dubai office continuing to grow in both staff numbers and geographical reach, currently serving clients on projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Morocco and Ethiopia, the latest nod is another feather in the cap for the prolific firm.
