P&T Consultants is proud to celebrate the conservation of the Jiak Kim Street godowns, which have been recognized for excellence at the URA Architectural Heritage Awards 2024.  The award ceremony was held on 8th November 2024 and Director Kingsley Ng received the award from Mr  Desmond Lee ( Minister for National Development, and the Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, Singapore). This project, part of Frasers Residence River Promenade, honors Singapore’s architectural legacy by blending the godowns' rich history with modern urban life. Project Overview:
Built in the early 20th century, the Jiak Kim Street godowns have witnessed Singapore's transformation—from bustling warehouses to the iconic Zouk nightclub, and now, as part of a vibrant residential and cultural development. The conservation effort ensures that the legacy of these structures lives on, while seamlessly integrating them into today’s urban fabric. Heritage Conservation Highlights: • Preserving Original Materials: Key elements such as the gable-end facades, timber fenestration, and original brickwork were meticulously preserved to retain the building's historical character. • Sensitive Restoration Techniques: The restoration team used traditional plastering methods and rising damp treatments to carefully maintain the authenticity of the godowns' structural integrity. • Incorporating Public Art: The project incorporates kinetic sculptures that symbolize the ebb and flow of the Singapore River, creating a poetic connection between the building and the river’s rich history. • Interpretative Displays: Visitors can engage with interpretive displays that tell the stories of the godowns' past, the people who worked along the riverbanks, and the dynamic role of Jiak Kim Street in Singapore’s development. This revitalization of the Jiak Kim Street godowns transforms them into a "living archive" that celebrates both history and modernity, making them a unique landmark for residents and visitors alike. We are proud to have contributed to the preservation of such an important piece of Singapore's heritage. Event Photo Credit: “Urban Redevelopment Authority, Singapore”

MET construction comes with unique challenges, including fire safety, humidity, and termite protection. RVCC overcame these with advanced fire engineering designs, protective aluminium and glass cladding, and a hybrid structural system combining reinforced concrete and MET. Nestled in Shanghai’s bustling Hongqiao CBD, The Hub reimagines mixed-use design as an interconnected landscape blending culture, business, and leisure. This architectural marvel sits across from the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and High-Speed Train Station, using its prime location to transform 62,000 square meters into a 400,000-square-meter destination with effortless access to Shanghai’s major transit links. The Hub’s design departs from traditional urban forms, evolving from a simple cube into an intricate composition of varied building volumes, some recessed and others projected beyond the structural grid. This breakdown creates a dynamic sense of movement across the space, elegantly transitioning from the vibrant 3-story retail cluster at ground level to the elevated offices above. Each structure is treated with unique materials and facade treatments, giving individual identities to different zones, so that visitors experience a cohesive yet varied visual landscape. This distinct materiality enables seamless wayfinding, allowing brands to establish a unique presence within a larger architectural narrative. Circulation is a major design feature of The Hub. In a bold departure, the pathways—bridges, escalators, lifts, and even tunnels—are not hidden but celebrated as part of the design’s visual and functional identity. These pathways form an open network connecting plazas and spaces, emphasizing The Hub’s three-dimensional topography that invites exploration and engagement. Movement within The Hub becomes part of the experience, as visitors enjoy elevated views and sightlines over a lively urban oasis below. The Hub’s lower levels are activated by retail spaces, creating a vibrant, immersive ground floor that flows into the public realm. Above, office spaces double as open-access showrooms, allowing the public to experience a blend of business and interaction in an accessible, welcoming environment. This innovation brings commerce and community together, reinforcing The Hub’s goal of becoming Shanghai’s one-stop destination for shopping, business, and entertainment.

The 70 storey Burj Rafal was the tallest occupied tower in Riyadh on completion and the first high-rise residential tower in the city. The first 25 floors of the tower are occupied by the 300 room Marriott Hotel with service apartments. The 6 story podium includes a 2,000 sqm ballroom, 3 restaurants, fitness center with an adjacent podium pool deck, playground, squash and tennis court. The podium also contains a 7,600 sqm luxury shopping mall. The top 40 stories contains apartments, duplexes and residence club on the top tower floor with pool, gym and lounge. When P&T was commissioned to design the iconic Burj Rafal JW Marriott (Previously Kempinski) in 2008, the project presented unique structural challenges. Although Riyadh was initially classified as a non-seismic active zone, further site investigations revealed its proximity to moderately seismic areas, prompting an upgraded design to meet UBC1997 Zone 1 seismic standards. The structure was also engineered to endure mean wind speeds of 35 m/s, with gusts reaching up to 50 m/s, ensuring resilience and stability for the long term. This meticulous attention to detail has helped Burj Rafal stand as a testament to modern engineering excellence in Riyadh. P&T is the architect, structural and BS engineer of the project and P&T took on the challenge of redeveloping Ying Wa Girls' School, tackling difficult site conditions with creativity and precision. The project, featuring two structures built on steep terrain with gradients nearing 40°, required innovative solutions due to the site's designation as a "scheduled" area with strict excavation limits. To ensure stability, we implemented temporary works to secure the adjacent Robinson Road and upgraded the slopes and retaining walls to meet current regulations. Utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), we optimized the design and planned for smooth coordination of architectural, structural, and building services. This 3D model also helped the contractor anticipate potential construction challenges ahead of time. The result is a seamless blend of engineering ingenuity and architectural vision in a complex, challenging environment. Land scarcity is severe and site areas available for hospital development is often restricted in this city, well known for its density. While some hospitals are situated in relatively flat and agreeable sites, others face the challenges of slopes and irregularly shaped boundaries. We have done a comparison study of three projects, with common features to illustrate salutogenic, or health-promoting designs in the given context of the challenging sites in Hong Kong. Health-promoting designs and architectural qualities are not compromised in the design and execution of tall hospitals that result from planning constraints.
