Description
The project brief was to transform an old prototype factory which was built in 1970s into an art centre as a working and meeting place for the artists’community. Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre is a 9-storey high building with a lettable floor area of 18,042 sqm, and offers 110 studios of various sizes. Facilities include a black-box theatre, exhibition galleries, workshops, retail art shops and cafes to serve tenants and to attract visitors. The design aimed to strike a fine balance between new and old features in order to achieve a harmonious integration with the surrounding neighbourhood and to preserve the inherent characteristics of the old factory building, to foster a constructive and healthy environment with art spaces.
