Description
The realization of the Youth Square is a collaborative effort between the Government and architectural intellectuals. Its design is based on the first prize winning scheme in the architectural design competition jointly organized by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects in 2000. The design proposal is an antithesis to the early prototype of the cookie-cutter repetitiveness in building design, and attempts to look for other architectural possibilities through study and reflection, thereby encouraging youths to explore the unknown. The Centre includes a 660-seat auditorium, 1,200 square meter of exhibition platform, multi-purpose halls for retail, arts and youth development and a 150-room international youth hostel.
