Description
Located at the corner of Cairnhill Road and Bideford Road, The Light was designed to create a distinctive landmark to signal the entry and exit points from the Central Expressway tunnels into the Cairnhill area. Glowing like a lantern at night, the key component is a 20-storey, glass-clad tower containing 120 apartment units and two penthouses which are complemented by three carefully restored shophouses from the colonial era. The site is enveloped at ground level by a terraced bamboo garden and water features. The tower has two curved wings that are oriented along the east-west axis to minimise solar heat gain and maximize views across the city. There are six units on each floor. Each apartment unit is served by a private lift lobby. Kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms are arranged along a central spine, allowing all the main living areas and principal bedrooms to face outwards.
