Description
The planning area is located in a rural context at the southeast of Long An Province. 30km south from Ho Chi Minh City and east of Tan An. It is consisted of two parts, a portion of Can Giuoc district along the river banks of Song Can Giuoc and the oasis island in the south surrounded by River Vam Co. The total area of planning is approximately 2,856ha.
The island’s current population stands at 30,000 residents, and is targeted to increase to 396,000 in year 2030.
Water surrounds the planning extent, embraced by River Vam Co, Song Can Giuoc and the salt water canal Kenh Nuoc Man. The land is rich in agricultural features with a wide variety of greenery, rice fields, mangrove forests, water canals and aquatic ponds.
The island is also rich in history and local culture. Being an important coastal fort build by the French colonialists, Don Rach Cat located in the eastern tip of the island, records the famous historic war events in Can Duoc and marks the victory of the Vietnam army against French colonialism.
The design proposal aims to position BRG Legend Island as a high-quality eco-tourist destination that harmonizes new economic growth, local culture and nature preservation, and community diversity. The proposed development will bring to the area a well-balanced plan, characterized by its eco-focus, delivery a vibrant cultural, natural and spiritual destination in Long An Province.
The proposed strategy is to bring in sustainable development through low carbon infrastructures, modifying the natural ground for wetland systems and enriching bio diversities, improving water regulation and water environment. Existing infrastructure are to be modified and extended to connect and facilitate new facilities and tourism. Local preservations will be protected by a green vegetation buffer, sheltering the preserved from new adjoining developments.
