Description
Chencharu Hills is a Public Housing Development of 10 residential blocks and 2 5-storey carparks containing a preschool, a senior-care centre, commercial facilities and 2 precinct pavilions. Situated in Yishun, near Khatib MRT and next to a park of approximately 3 hectares, it is bordered by Sembawang Road, North-South Corridor, Lorong Chencharu and the bus-only corridor, Chencharu Link. It is also adjacent to an upcoming integrated Development comprising a hawker centre, bus interchange, shops and residential units. Chencharu Hills is to obtain Green Mark Gold Plus. The residential blocks are subjected to extensive sightline controls due to its proximity to the military airbase. This design constraint also becomes the design strategy, where by the blocks are tilted away from the military base at 45 degree angle, creating a dynamic elevation across the northern edge of the site. The inner edge of the blocks are arranged around a linear extent of precinct green, stretching across the length of the site. Providing all residents with playgrounds, fitness corners with exercise equipment, shelters and various gardens. At the central point of the northern longitudinal edge of the Chencharu Hills, the residential blocks open up in a gate-way like entrance to the park. The edge between these two sites is completely seamless with a vehicular-free pathways to enhance pedestrian connectivity. The park will be built around a 100-year-old colonial bungalow. The two-storey bungalow, was built in
the early 1910s by Bukit Sembawang Rubber Company and will be repurposed for community uses. The park will celebrate this historical landmark with a heritage trail with a series of gardens and storyboards for residents to learn about the area’s history. This green haven will boast of multiple zones for social connectedness, active lifestyles and mental wellness among residents and visitors.
